Inter Miami

Inside Inter Miami: First win under Hoyos, Messi magic, Real Salt Lake next

Inter Miami hasn’t lost since their opening game, but it hadn’t been winning much either.

That changed last Saturday with a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rapids on the road in front of a crowd of 75,824, the second-largest in MLS history, at Mile High Stadium in Denver.

Lionel Messi scored twice, including a signature majestic goal in the second half, after the Rapids tied the game at 2.

We’ll break down the club’s first win under interim coach Guillermo Hoyos, which had its bright spots with Messi and German Berterame scoring, and its lows as the defense got exposed again, Mateo Silvetti pulled a hamstring, and Yannick Bright was red carded when the referee heard him use a racial slur.

We hear from Ian Fray talking about the team’s coaching transition after the abrupt resignation of Javier Mascherano last week just before this road trip. And we’ll hear from Noah Allen and Facu Mura after the win.

We also look ahead to Wednesday’s matchup at Real Salt Lake, which presents another seemingly formidable challenge spearheaded by two familiar faces to longtime South Florida soccer fans.

Real Salt Lake is coached by former Miami Fusion star Pablo Mastroeni and former Inter Miami captain DeAndre Yedlin is one of their top stars. We hear from Yedlin about his team and his new life in Utah.
