Inter Miami

Inside Inter Miami: Messi’s choice pays off; Adios, Jordi; final matchday looms

Lionel Messi made the rare choice of club over country last week.

It paid off for Inter Miami as the team secured a needed three points thanks largely to Messi’s two goals and an assist in a 4-0 win over Atlanta United, which secured the team at least the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MLS playoffs.

After training with the national team the entire week, Messi chose to sit out and not play for Argentina the previous night in a friendly against Venezuela that was played in Miami before playing for Inter Miami in that crucial game.

Messi then suited up for Argentina on Tuesday night in another exhibition game against Puerto Rico.

We talk about Messi’s clutch performance and what it means for Inter Miami as it heads into its final regular season match Saturday night at Nashville SC in our latest episode of Inside Inter Miami.

Messi appears to have the MLS Golden Boot title in his grasp barring a major collapse this weekend as well. We look at that and Miami’s likely first round playoff opponent.

We also reflect on Jordi Alba’s stellar career and impact on Inter Miami’s franchise with reaction from Alba himself and Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano.

And props to former Inter Miami standout Benjamin Cremaschi, who is excelling in the U20 World Cup, as well as rising star Mateo Silvetti, who has been a key player for the Argentina U20 squad.
