Inter Miami

Inside Inter Miami: Messi and fans frustrated as slumping team heads to red-hot Philly

Lionel Messi has left the past two games without a win, with yellow cards, and in a bad mood.

The Inter Miami fan base is also getting increasingly frustrated and grumpy as the team slipped to sixth place in the Eastern Conference with an embarrassing 3-0 loss at home to intrastate rival Orlando City, which mocked Messi and Inter Miami on social media after the game.

Miami, which had such high hopes after a strong start in coach Javier Mascherano’s debut season, is mired in a funk with just one win over the past seven games. The team gave up 20 goals during that stretch, and faces a tough challenge on the road Saturday night against the first-place Philadelphia Union with two home games ahead next week against Montreal and Eastern Conference nemesis Columbus Crew.

In this week’s episode of the Inter Miami podcast, we break down what is going wrong with team and who is to blame. We have reaction from Mascherano, Yannick Bright and Fafa Picault. Plus, comments from Jordi Alba about his two-year contract extension, and whether that is a hint that Messi will sign an extension soon.
