Inter Miami trades Robert Taylor to Austin FC. Here’s what they got in return

Robert Taylor, the Finnish Inter Miami winger, was traded to Austin FC on Wednesday for up to $750,000 in General Allocation Money, both teams announced.

Inter Miami will receive $450,000 in 2025 GAM and $250,000 in 2026 GAM, and could get an additional $50,000 in 2027 GAM should Taylor meet certain performance-based incentives.

Taylor, 30, joined Inter Miami in 2022 and made 116 appearances for the club, scoring 18 goals and providing 18 assists. He was part of Miami’s Leagues Cup and Supporters’ Shield victories.

“This was a decision made by the club, as it was considered a good business deal during this transfer window,” said Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano. “I wish him all the best in this new chapter in Austin. During the four months we worked together, he was very, very professional. All the best for his future.”

Teammate Fafa Picault added: “It’s never easy to say goodbye to a teammate, but we all know how this business is. I wish him and his family all the best.”

Taylor will add depth to the Austin attack, which also includes forwards Brandon Vazquez, Myrto Uzuni and Osman Bukari, who arrived over the past year. Austin is second in the Western Conference and has scored seven goals in nine matches.

Taylor had been left off the active roster for a few recent games, so the news did not come as a big surprise. The transfer window closes at midnight April 23. Asked if there was any update on Julian Gressel, who has not played in any MLS games this season, Mascherano said “there may be news soon, that is all I can say.”
