Inside Inter Miami: Messi returns, but club on brink of Champions Cup elimination

Lionel Messi returned to the starting lineup and Inter Miami was at full strength last week even for its MLS match against Toronto.

But the club couldn’t come away with a victory in either match.

Now, they are on the brink of elimination heading into Wednesday night’s second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals against LAFC.

On the latest episode of Inside Inter Miami, hosts Michelle Kaufman and Andre Fernandez discuss what the team needs to do survive and advance and it’s going to take more than just Messi.

We look back at how Inter Miami landed in this predicament and what factored in to the club securing only one point instead of an expected three points against Toronto this past Sunday.

We also look at the return of Drake Callender and hear from Inter Miami’s co-captain and what is next for the club at the goalkeeper position, which should prove crucial against LAFC.

Kaufman also gives a behind-the-scenes look at Miami Freedom Park’s new 3-D experience and discusses 2026 season ticket sales.

And finally, we address the recent rumors linking Manchester City superstar Kevin DeBruyne and Inter Miami. Does the club have the means to pair Messi and the Belgian superstar this summer or beyond?
