Inside Inter Miami: Payback vs. Cincinnati, ageless Suarez, Messi update and what’s next
Revenge was sweet and important for Inter Miami last week against FC Cincinnati.
Miami’s 2-0 clean sheet clinched a playoff spot and extended the club’s lead in the Supporter’s Shield standings to four points over the LA Galaxy and eight points over Cincinnati in the Eastern Conference with eight games remaining. Inter Miami is the third quickest to reach playoffs in league history, and it avenged its embarrassing 6-1 loss to Cincinnati last time.
The latest episode of Inside Inter Miami reviews that win and how the club looked completely different this time around thanks largely to “El Pistolero” Luis Suarez, who continues to shine at 37 years of age. Suarez has 18 goals across all competitions, passing Gonzalo Higuain’s mark, and was voted MLS Player of the Week.
Our hosts Michelle Kaufman and Andre Fernandez also discuss the team’s ongoing issue with yellow cards and red cards, particularly when it comes to Tomas Aviles, who got two yellows by the 42nd minute of last Saturday’s match and was ejected, leaving Miami with 10 men for the final 60-plus minutes.
Kaufman also spoke to goalkeeper Drake Callender after the game and we share his thoughts on Suarez, beating Cincinnati and the pressure intensifying as the chase for the MLS Cup heats up.
We also look ahead to Saturday’s match at Chicago and we get a Lionel Messi update from coach Tata Martino as we share video from his press conference earlier this week.
