A new Herald Inter Miami podcast! And we break down Lionel Messi’s imminent MLS debut
The Lionel Messi era in Major League Soccer is about to officially begin.
On the eve of the soccer’s global megastar’s MLS debut on Friday night, the Miami Herald introduces a new podcast dubbed “Inside Inter Miami,” which will dive into all the ins and outs of Inter Miami and their recently-acquired superstar.
While hundreds of media members have descended upon Miami in recent weeks, Herald Deputy Sports Editor Andre Fernandez co-hosts with the person who knows Inter Miami the best - Herald beat writer Michelle Kaufman, who has covered the team since its inception, and spent multiple decades covering international soccer on the local and global level.
In our first episode, Kaufman takes us behind the scenes into the frenzy that the team’s facility has become since Messi’s arrival and offers perspective on just how incredible and unprecedented all of this is for such a young franchise.
-We discuss what Messi’s role and participation level could be in his debut at DRV Pink Stadium Friday in the Leagues Cup against Mexican Club, Cruz Azul.
-Kaufman and Fernandez also talk about Messi’s impact not only on Inter Miami, but his potential long-term impact for MLS as a whole as it looks to become one of the top leagues in the world.
-And we look at how soon Messi could have a significant impact on the field for Inter Miami and what’s realistic in terms of the success he and other new acquisitions such as Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets can bring to the squad in the coming months.
