Inter Miami to face Brazilian club Vasco da Gama at DRV PNK Stadium in January friendly

Another South American powerhouse soccer team is headed to Fort Lauderdale this off-season. Inter Miami announced on Wednesday that it will face Brazilian club Vasco da Gama in a friendly at DRV PNK Stadium on Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.

Vasco is the third club that will use Inter Miami’s Florida Blue Training Center during the 2023 preseason. Argentine team River Plate and Colombian team Millonarios also will train at the facility and are playing a friendly on Jan. 14 at DRV PNK Stadium.

Established in 1898, Vasco da Gama is back in the Brazilian top division after a two-year absence. The “Vascão” sit among the top in the list of teams with most Brazilian Série A titles in history with four and have won a CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores title and a CONMEBOL Copa Mercosur title. Among the players who have worth the shirt are Bebeto and Romario.

Tickets for the Inter Miami vs Vasco da Gama match, which is Miami’s first announced match in preparation for its 2023 MLS season, will be available at a later date. Season ticket members will receive discounted tickets.

River, meanwhile, has won a record 35 Argentine Primera División titles, four Copa Libertadores titles, a Copa Sudamericana title, and three Argentine Cup titles.

The game will likely be the debut of new coach Martin Demichelis, the former Argentine player who is replacing the departing Marcelo Gallardo.

Colombian power Millonarios has won 20 titles, making it the second most successful club in Colombian soccer. They won 15 Colombian First Division titles, a Copa Merconorte title and three Copa Colombia titles.
