Inter Miami forward Robbie Robinson to undergo surgery, out four to five months
Inter Miami forward Robbie Robinson suffered a right hamstring tendon rupture in the game against Portland on May 28, will undergo surgery this week and is expected to miss four to five months.
Robinson, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, will likely miss the rest of the season. The regular season ends Oct. 9 and the MLS Cup final is Nov. 5, a bit earlier than usual due to the World Cup in Qatar kicking off in late November.
Robinson, 23, began his MLS career with much promise and has had stretches of success, but he has been plagued by injuries. He has five goals and two assists over 44 games and has started 26 games for Inter Miami.
He had returned to the starting lineup for the Portland game, but his shift was cut short when he pulled up with the hamstring injury in the 43rd minute.
In other team news, the club agreed to terminated the contract of midfielder Mo Adams, who left to join Saudi Arabian team Al Shabab.
Inter Miami returns from the three-week FIFA international break on Sunday with a road game against Atlanta United (3 p.m., ESPN2). Miami is in ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings after five wins, two ties and two losses during the past nine games.
