Inter Miami unveils white home jersey with pink trim. Here’s where you can buy it
Inter Miami unveiled its inaugural white home jersey on Monday, six days before the team’s Major League Soccer season opener on the road at Los Angeles FC (5:30 p.m., ESPN). The black away shirt was revealed a few weeks ago.
The home jersey is white, “inspired by the wings of the great white heron” on the club’s crest. It has pink accents on the collar button and the sleeves. The shirt is embossed with herons, and the team’s motto “Freedom to Dream” is on the inside of the collar.
A shirt sponsor has not yet been chosen. The club, in an effort to have a global reach and represent Miami as a tourist destination, is seeking sponsorships from the tourism industry. Team owners have been in negotiations with hotel chains, cruise lines, and airlines, including Qatar Airways, which has drawn criticism from some fans due to that country’s poor record with human rights.
The jerseys are for sale through the Inter Miami Instagram account (@InterMiamiCF) and on the club’s online store at www.mlsstore.com/inter-miami-cf/.
Single-game tickets to Inter Miami’s home debut on March 14 against the Los Angeles Galaxy have sold out. The only way to guarantee a ticket to that game is by becoming a season-ticket member. Fewer than 1,000 season tickets remain for the 2020 season.
A limited number of single-game tickets for Inter Miami’s second home game on March 21 against the New York Red Bulls and third home game on April 5 against the Philadelphia Union remain and are on sale at https://www.intermiamicf.com/en/tickets/single
Robbie Robinson steps up
After a week of training in St. Petersburg, the team returned to its newly constructed Fort Lauderdale training complex Monday and will practice there through Friday before flying to Los Angeles. Inter Miami played four preseason matches in St. Petersburg — two closed-door scrimmages against Philadelphia Union and FC Dallas, and public games against Philadelphia and the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
Inter lost 2-1 to Philadelphia and won 1-0 against Tampa Bay. The Miami goals were scored by Mexican national-team star Rodolfo Pizarro and No. 1 college draft pick Robbie Robinson, the former Clemson standout.
Robinson is expected to get extended playing time in the absence of injured forwards Julian Carranza and Juan Agudelo. Carranza is out until April with a left foot injury. Agudelo injured his right hamstring, and his return is unknown.
Robinson said the biggest adjustments from college to the pros are the speed of play and moving better off the ball.
“In college, I got the ball at my feet, and was able to turn and have space,” Robinson said. “At this level, people are on you quickly and when you turn with the ball, there’s going to be two, three people right on you so you have to learn how to play quickly and move off the ball really well. I still have a long way to go, and I can improve so much more, but I’m looking forward to it.”
