Inter Miami

Inter Miami announces full preseason schedule, opens camp Monday at Barry University

Inter Miami will open its inaugural training camp at Barry University in Miami on Jan. 20 and train there for a week before traveling to Port Saint Lucie, Bradenton and St. Petersburg for portions of the six-week preseason training.

The team will play a total of six scrimmages and friendly matches, two of which are open to the public — Feb. 15 against Philadelphia Union and Feb. 22 against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Both of those games are in St. Petersburg at Al Lang Stadium, and are free of charge.

There will be limited opportunities for South Florida fans to see the team train locally at its new Fort Lauderdale facility in February, but the majority of the camp is closed to the public.

“We understand the unique position we are in as an expansion club coming into a new preseason with players and coaches moving into town for the first time. For us it is important to bring the players together away from distractions, so they get to know each other, train and buy into our culture and coaching philosophies in a short period of time,” said Inter Miami sporting director Paul McDonough. “We have high expectations for the new season and look to strengthen the competitive team we’ve built for our fans in South Florida.”

In partnership with Baptist Health, the team will complete medical examinations/clearance this weekend before kicking off its preseason camp at Barry. The team will train there from Jan. 20 through Jan. 24, then travel to Port Saint Lucie for training Jan. 25-31, and then move to Bradenton from Feb. 1-6.

The team will return to South Florida to its training complex in Fort Lauderdale and practice there for the first time from Feb. 7-14, before hitting the road for the final phase of preseason in St. Petersburg.

Inter Miami will play the Charleston Battery in a closed-door scrimmage on Feb. 7 and another closed scrimmage Feb. 12 against New York City FC.

The schedule for the final preseason week at home, Feb. 23-Feb. 28, will be announced at a later date outlining opportunities for fans in South Florida to see the team.

Inter Miami opens its inaugural season on the road Mar. 1 against Los Angeles FC, is on the road again Mar. 7 at D.C. United and the home opener is Mar. 14 at 2:30 p.m. against the Los Angeles Galaxy, former team of club co-owner David Beckham.
