Inter Miami

Two of Inter Miami’s preseason games revealed, the rest being finalized

Inter Miami fans will get at least two chances to watch the new Major League Soccer club in preseason friendly matches as the team will play two February games in St. Petersburg as part of the 2020 Rowdies Suncoast Invitational.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies announced Wednesday that Inter Miami will play the Philadelphia Union on Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. and will also play the Rowdies on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. The games will be at the waterfront Al Lang Stadium, and admission is free.

Inter Miami training camp opens on Monday, Jan. 20, and runs through the end of February. The team will train at multiple sites around Florida – some in South Florida, some in West Florida — while construction on its Fort Lauderdale soccer complex is completed. The training facility is expected to be ready for use by mid-February.

The full preseason schedule was being finalized Wednesday and is expected to be announced in the next few days. FC Dallas has a 9 a.m. scrimmage against Inter Miami at Al Lang Stadium posted on its preseason schedule; and New York City FC lists a February game against Inter Miami, but neither of those is expected to be open to the public.

Inter Miami opens its inaugural season on the road Mar. 1 at Los Angeles FC, is on the road again Mar. 7 at D.C. United and the home opener is Mar. 14 at 2:30 p.m against the Los Angeles Galaxy, the former team of Inter Miami owner David Beckham.

The club, which has signed 22 players, is also working to fill the 30-man roster, negotiating contracts for a few international players and higher-priced “Designated Players.”

Reports from Scotland say Inter Miami has agreed to terms with 23-year-old Celtic winger Lewis Morgan for a $300,000 transfer. Morgan spent the past few seasons on loan with St. Mirren and Sunderland. He played 18 games for Celtic this season and scored twice in Europa League games.

Manchester City star David Silva has been linked to Inter Miami for several months, with reports saying the four-time Premier League champion would likely join the team when his contract expires in June. Silva, a 34-year-old Spaniard, has played 400 games for Man City.

Agustin Almendra, a 19-year-old rising talent with Argentine club Boca Juniors, is also reportedly close to a deal with Inter Miami. Other players linked to the team include Colombian forward Roger Martinez, who plays for Club America in Mexico, and Colombian forward Dorlan Pabon, who played at Monterrey in Mexico for newly hired Inter Miami coach Diego Alonso.
