Strikers come up short in 1-0 loss to Carolina RailHawks

Fort Lauderdale pushed for the tying goal in the second half but came up short in a loss to Carolina at Lockhart Stadium.

Former Fort Lauderdale forward Brian Shriver scored the match’s only goal for Carolina in the 23rd minute.

Fort Lauderdale, still looking for its first victory of the Fall Season, forced the attack after the break, looking for the tying goal, but numerous offside calls shut down potential opportunities to score.

Ramon Nuñez, who was ejected after picking up a second yellow card in the 91st minute, had a good shot from the edge of the box in the 47th minute that forced Carolina goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre to make the save. Nuñez also hit the base of the left post with a shot from the edge of the box in the 81st minute. Attacking partner Jose Angulo was close in the 51st minute.

Key players who missed the match for the Strikes were PC, who was out with an injury, and Geison Moura, who picked up a suspension after the mid-week match at Indy Eleven.

The Strikers will travel to Chicago on Wednesday to take on Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire in the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
