Fort Lauderdale Strikers to face Brazil club Corinthians Paulista in friendly

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers will host an international friendly against Brazilian champion Sport Club Corinthians Paulista at 2 p.m. Jan. 23 at Lockhart Stadium.

Founded in 1910, Corinthians competes in Brazil’s top-flight league and is one of the most popular teams in the country. The 2015 season wrapped up on Sunday with Corinthians claiming their sixth league title.

“Corinthians is one of the most successful teams in Brazil and we’re excited to square off against them at Lockhart,” Strikers CEO Sean Guerin said. “While facing the Brazilian champions will be a tough test, the match will be a treat for Strikers fans. It will pay off in terms of preparation for the 2016 NASL season. I can’t wait.”

▪ The Strikers will begin play in the nine-team 2016 Florida Cup when they face FC Schalke 04 of the German Bundesliga on Jan. 10 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando. One week later, the Strikers will meet Independiente Santa Fe, commonly known as Santa Fe, from Colombia’s top league at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton.
