Work begins on $280 million Homestead sports complex, new Miami FC stadium
Inter Miami isn’t the only South Florida professional soccer team getting a new home. Miami FC, the local USL team, which plays at FIU’s Pitbull Stadium, will relocate to a new 10,000-seat venue in Homestead over the next few years.
The stadium is part of the Sports Performance Hub (SPH), a 92-acre, privately funded $280 million sports and education campus that celebrated its groundbreaking last week at the former Homestead Sports Complex.
The project is led by a group of global athletes and entrepreneurs, including retired Argentine soccer legend Juan Sebastián Verón, Dario Sala, and Olympic gold medalist Pepe Sanchez. Co-Founders Gaston Remy, Emiliano Fernández Balagué, Riccardo Silva (majority owner of Miami FC), Nick Sakiewicz (longtime sports executive and real estate developer), and former Argentine NBA star Manu Ginobili, tennis pros Juan “Pico” Mónaco and Mariano Zabaleta, and NFL veteran Martin Gramatica.
In addition to the Miami FC stadium, which will host the Homestead Championship Rodeo and other community events, SPH will include multi-sport academies offering specialized training and expert coaching in soccer, tennis, basketball, baseball, and football; a boarding school for 600 student-athletes; a sports-themed hotel; a sports medicine center; a children’s park and public recreation facilities.
“We’re creating a place where young athletes can dream bigger, families can see real opportunity close to home, and the Homestead community can thrive alongside them,” said Sakiewicz, CEO of Sports Performance Hub. “By bringing together elite multi-sport training, education, and hospitality, we are building an ecosystem that supports the whole athlete and strengthens the local economy for generations to come.”
Homestead Mayor Steven D. Losner added: “This project represents more than new fields and facilities — it’s an investment in our people. The Sports Performance Hub will open doors for our youth, create jobs for our residents, and position Homestead as a destination for opportunity, wellness, and world-class competition.”
The project is supported by a $280 million investment, excluding approximately $60 million in land value under an 80-year lease with the City of Homestead.
Development will occur in two phases: Phase 1 (2025–2026) will establish non-residential academies and training infrastructure. Phase 2 (2026–2027) will add the hotel, student housing, and the Miami FC home stadium.
SPH holds a 60 percent majority stake in Miami FC. During the groundbreaking, Miami FC also announced a partnership with Avianca, establishing the Colombian airline as the team’s main uniform sponsor and exclusive carrier.
