The Fort Lauderdale Strikers will open their 2015 NASL Spring season with a home match against the New York Cosmos at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Lockhart Stadium.
Although the Strikers reached the NASL championship match, the team underwent major changes in the offseason, with new ownership, coach and a revamped roster. Former Brazil international Ronaldo, who helped lead the national team to the 2002 World Cup championship, is part of the new ownership group.
Marcelo Neveleff has replaced Gunter Kronsteiner as coach. Despite leading the Strikers the past two seasons, including the league runner-up finish in 2014, Kronsteiner did not have his contract renewed.
Defenders Ivan Guerrero and Stephane Guillaume and forward Aly Hassan are among the returning players from last season. The league again will be split into spring and fall seasons. The 11-match spring schedule will end in June with the fall matches beginning July 4.
