Marlins avoid salary arbitration with Jose Fernandez, sign all eight eligible players
The Marlins have reached agreements with all eight of their arbitration-eligible players, including ace Jose Fernandez, the team announced Friday.
Fernandez, who was the subject of trade speculation during the recent MLB Winter Meetings, has reportedly agreed to a one-year, $2.8 million deal.
Two days after the Marlins extended the contract of second baseman Dee Gordon for five years and $50 million, they avoided arbitration with Fernandez just before the deadline for submitting salary figures.
The Marlins also reached agreements with shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria and pitchers Bryan Morris, Tom Koehler, Carter Capps, David Phelps and A.J. Ramos meaning all 40 players on the 40-man roster are under contract.
Koehler signed for one-year, $3.5 million, Ramos signed for one-year, $3.4 million and Hechavarria agreed to a one-year, $2.625 million deal.
