Miami Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton wins Silver Slugger award
Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton keeps on racking up honors. Thursday he picked up his first Silver Slugger award – his third major award this fall.
Stanton, 24, also won the NL’s Hank Aaron Award as the league’s best offensive player, and the Players Choice Award as the NL’s Outstanding Player.
Stanton, who was named to his second NL All-Star team this summer, is also one of three finalists for the National League Most Valuable Player Award, which will be announced by the Baseball Writers Association of America on Nov. 13.
He is the fifth Marlin to win a Silver Slugger, joining Gary Sheffield (1993, ’96), Mike Lowell (2003), Miguel Cabrera (2005, ’06) and Hanley Ramirez (2008, ’09).
