Marlins sign five players, consider two familiar names among serious candidates for TV job

Two local broadcasters who already cover the team are among several candidates receiving strong consideration for the Marlins’ TV play-by-play job.

Longtime FanDuel Marlins studio host Craig Minervini and Marlins radio voice Kyle Sielaff are among several candidates who are being given serious consideration, according to industry sources.

Another name very much in the mix: Geoff Arnold, who has spent five seasons announcing games on the Orioles radio network and involved in Orioles TV coverage on MASN.

The Marlins have interviewed a handful of other candidates, including Double A Amarillo announcer Stefan Caray, one of the twin sons of longtime MLB broadcaster Chip Caray, grandson of deceased Braves announcer Skip Caray and great grandson of legendary Cubs announcer Harry Caray.

The Marlins are seeking a new voice to replace Paul Severino, whose contract was not renewed after seven seasons.

The team and FanDuel Sports Florida are expected to keep a rotating group of analysts anchored by Tommy Hutton and Rod Allen.

Players sign

All five arbitration-eligible Marlins agreed to contracts with the team on Thursday.

Terms were not disclosed.

That group includes outfielder Jesus Sanchez (.252, 18 homers, 64 RBI last season) pitchers Braxton Garrett (will miss the season due to an elbow injury), Edward Cabrera (4-8, 4.95 in 20 starts) and Anthony Bender (5-2, 4.08 ERA in 59 appearances) and catcher Nick Fortes (.259, 4, 29).
