The selling price of Derek Jeter’s first Yankees jersey is more than condos on South Beach

It has been more than five years since Derek Jeter last wore the pinstripes.

But if you think the love for the Captain has diminished, guess again.

Jeter’s first game-worn New York Yankees jersey sold Sunday for a whooping $369,000, making it the most expensive modern-era jersey ever, according to CBS Sports. The previous high was Mike Piazza’s post-911 home run jersey which went for $365,000.

The gray away jersey features Jeter’s autograph alongside a handwritten note that reads “Game Used 5-29-95 MLB Debut.”

Jeter wore the jersey during his May 29 debut against the Seattle Mariners and for the remainder of the season. Although the then-21-year-old didn’t record a hit and the Yankees ended up losing 8-7, he later had his first single, double and triple in that same jersey. He would only play 15 games that season, finishing with a .250 batting average.

Things changed in 1996 when Jeter won American League Rookie of the Year and helped the Yankees capture their 23 World Series. He retired in 2014 as the Yankees’ all-time leader in hits, the sixth most in MLB history.
