Nike unveiled the new Marlins jerseys. How much changed?

Miami Marlins fans — start hoping the oft-quoted Deion Sanders adage rings true.

Nike released images of new uniforms for all 30 teams Monday to kick off their 10-year partnership with Major League Baseball.

“New,” however, might not be the best word choice. Unlike their massive rebrand prior to the 2019 season, the 2020 jerseys did not change much. The only “new” element is the iconic Nike swoosh’s placement above the “M” in Miami.

Not all fans were happy about the new threads. Some speculated the image’s orange backdrop might indicate the team’s departure from using “Caliente Red” as an accent color.

“I need answers @Marlins,” tweeted one aggrieved fan. “Did you put orange back in the jerseys like NOBODY wanted?”

A Marlins spokesperson has since denied the team’s return to orange and confirmed they’ll be staying with Caliente Red.

With Monday’s announcement only including home jerseys, Marlins fans should wish that the new digs bring good luck to a team that underwhelmed in South Florida. The Marlins lost 51 games at home last season, the third-worst mark in the league.
