Titletown South Florida: Who will win state titles in basketball? Plus recruiting talk
After a three-week break for the holidays, Titletown South Florida is back!
We’re still talking some football with Miami Herald Deputy Sports Editor Andre Fernandez and Sportswriter David Wilson as we look back at some top performances during the recent Under Armour and U.S. Army All-American Bowl games.
And we take a peek at some interesting storylines and undecided recruits with the next signing period for Class of 2023 just three weeks away on Feb. 1.
Among them, Wilson talks to Miami Norland running back Javin Simpkins after his outing at the Under Armour Game.
But with the 2022 high school football season is over, it’s also time to talk some hoops.
Fernandez and Miami Herald Sportswriter Jordan McPherson break down who are the best of the best in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties so far this season with some projections on who is most likely to make the trip up to Lakeland in a few weeks to compete for state championships.
Nationally-ranked Columbus looks unstoppable in Class 7A on the boys’ side, but others like Mater Lakes, Riviera Prep, St. Thomas Aquinas and Sagemont are also in the hunt. On the girls’ side, it looks like we could be headed for another Miami Country vs. Westminster Academy showdown in the playoffs. But expect tournament regulars like Miami High, St. Thomas Aquinas, Blanche Ely, Dillard, Cardinal Gibbons and South Broward to make some noise.
And will American Heritage’s girls tie a state record with six consecutive state championships this season?
