Titletown South Florida: A breakdown of the state semifinals with guest Larry Blustein
The final fours are set in each class.
And with five teams ranked in the top 30 in the nation, Miami-Dade and Broward County is looking for a sweep of the four Metro classifications, it’s time to find out if they can clear the final hurdle before the state finals.
The road to Tallahassee and Fort Lauderdale is winding down and Titletown South Florida, the Miami Herald’s weekly High School sports show, invited a friend to help breaking down the competition that powerhouses such as Miami Central, Hollywood Chaminade, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, Plantation American Heritage and Miami Columbus as well as programs on the rise, Homestead at Miami True North Academy, are facing this weekend.
Miami Herald Deputy Sports Editor Andre Fernandez and Sportswriter David Wilson are joined by longtime high school football writer, recruiting analyst and radio host Larry Blustein to discuss the state semifinal matchups.
Also in this week’s show:
▪ We look at last week’s showdown between American Heritage and Cardinal Gibbons, which was again dominated by a potential future NFL running back.
▪ We look at the milestone win by Homestead over Miramar and the giant obstacle in its way now as they travel to Orlando this Friday.
▪ How about True North clinching a state semifinal appearance in only its fourth season? We take a look at the Titans’ young, talented roster.
▪ Can Dade and Broward get teams into all four state finals in the Metro classes, and will we have one or even two historic cross-county matchups for the first time ever?
▪ Which of the out-of-town teams standing in their way is the toughest and which players are good to keep an eye on from a recruiting standpoint? Larry breaks that down.
▪ And Andre and David make their state semifinal predictions.
