Miami Hurricanes expecting multiple five-star visitors for ACC opener against Virginia

The Miami Hurricanes will open Atlantic Coast Conference play Thursday against the Virginia Cavaliers and will use it as a chance to welcome a strong group of in-state recruits to Miami Gardens.

The headliners will be a pair of local five-star prospects.

Shemar Stewart set for visit

Shemar Stewart is probably the Hurricanes’ top target in the Class of 2022 and he will spend Thursday in the crowd at Hard Rock Stadium.

Stewart is the only five-star prospect in South Florida for the 2022 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings, and Miami leads in the 247Sports Crystal Ball for the 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive lineman.

The Miami Gardens Monsignor Pace senior made four trips to Coral Gables in June, including one for Paradise Camp. He also previously attended the Hurricanes’ season-opening loss to the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Sept. 4, making the trek to Atlanta as a guest of Miami.

The five-star defensive end is set for an official visit with the Georgia Bulldogs this weekend, but the Hurricanes are taking advantage of their midweek game to get some face time with him ahead of his trip to Athens.

Stewart also has an official visit lined up with the Texas A&M Aggies for October, and is working to set up official visits with Miami and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He previously said he doesn’t expect to make a commitment before the early signing period in December.

UM coach Manny Diaz has made Stewart a priority, too. The coach attended one of Stewart’s games Sept. 10.

Jalen Brown set to return

It’s still early, but Jalen Brown is a candidate to be the Hurricanes’ top target in the Class of 2023 and he will visit Miami for the second time in six days when the Hurricanes host Virginia.

The five-star wide receiver was also at Miami’s 69-0 win against the FCS Central Connecticut State Blue Devils on Saturday. Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and wide receivers coach Rob Likens also went to watch Brown play at Miami Gulliver Prep on Friday.

It has been an active fall for Brown’s recruitment, and the Hurricanes are doing a good job of getting time with him. The 6-1, 170-pound junior has also visited the Florida State Seminoles, Florida Gators and Michigan Wolverines already this season.

The rest

Two more high-profile visitors for Miami on Thursday: four-star athlete Chris Graves and four-star defensive lineman Rueben Bain.

Graves, who plays both cornerback and wide receiver for Fort Myers Bishop Verot, is one of two in-state commits for the Hurricanes in the 2022 recruiting cycle, and a player Miami is high on as a corner because of his speed and lanky 6-1, 175-pound frame. The senior was also at the Hurricanes’ home opener against the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Sept. 11.

Bain, a junior at Miami Central, is one the next stars from one of the Hurricanes’ most reliable feeder schools. The 6-2, 250-pound lineman was also at the Appalachian State game and is a teammate of three-star wide receiver Lamar Seymore, who’s Miami’s lone commit in the 2023 class.
