Palmetto beats American to win GMAC softball title
Sophomore Hannah Burge went 3 for 4 and scored a run to lead the Palmetto softball team’s offense in an 8-1 victory over American in the GMAC final Wednesday afternoon at Palmetto Bay Park.
Sophomore Brittany Barczak (6-3) pitched a complete game, striking out four batters for the Panthers (20-4).
“We played a good team — they have definitely improved from the last time we played them,” seventh-year coach Emilio Exposito said. “Our pitcher did a fantastic job on the mound, and so did Hannah at the top of the lineup.”
Senior Alyssa Vincent had a triple, three RBI and added a run for Palmetto.
After this win, the Panthers must focus on the win-or-go-home intensity of the district playoffs, where a match-up against Southridge awaits.
“We have to focus on our hitting and coming out early and to have solid defense, as I always preach,” Exposito said.
Last season, the Panthers went 20-9 and reached the regional semifinals.
