TEAMS OF THE WEEK

The Columbus boys’ and Northwestern girls’ track and field teams won the GMAC team championships. The Explorers won their first boys’ crown since 2011. The Bulls won their eighth consecutive championship. C.J. Henderson won the 200 meters in 21.87 seconds and helped Columbus win the 400-meter relay title in 41.57 seconds. Timetria Mitchell broke the 100 hurdles record in the event and helped the Bulls break another meet record in the 400-meter relay.

Palmetto’s girls and Miami Beach’s boys each won GMAC tennis titles. Ansofi Wreder, Roxana Montoya and Samantha Alicea won their singles matches, and Alicea teamed with Olivia Schutiema to win the clinching doubles match for Palmetto. The teams of Quin McLeod and Nicolas Barone (No. 1 doubles) and Omar Zarif and Luca McLeod (No. 2 doubles) each scored clutch wins to lead Miami Beach.

Gabe Gonzalez, Belen, baseball: Gonzalez struck out nine and gave up two hits and no earned runs in a 2-1 win over Doral.

Sofia Dominguez, Monsignor Pace, softball: Dominguez had 14 strikeouts and hit two doubles to lead the Spartans to a 12-0 win over Terra.

Carlin Berryhill, Coral Reef, boys’ track and field: Berryhill won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters at the GMAC track finals and was part of the winning 3,200 relay.

Kaylee Alfaro, Ferguson, girls’ track and field: Alfaro won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters at the GMAC championships.

Abdyleziz Abydov, Mourning, boys’ tennis: Abydov won his singles and doubles match to lead the Sharks to the GMAC finals.

Julie Shillington, Krop, girls’ tennis: Shillington won her singles and doubles matches to lead the Lightning to a 4-3 comeback win against Terra and the GMAC finals.

Daniel Thews, SLAM, boys’ volleyball: Thews had 15 kills and seven service points to lead the Titans to a five-set win over Hialeah-Miami Lakes.

Michael Cabanas, Florida Christian, boys’ lacrosse: Cabanas had a combined six goals to lead the Patriots to wins over La Salle and John Carroll.

Calliste Skouris, Ransom Everglades, girls’ lacrosse: Skouris scored a combined eight goals in wins over Killian and Palmer Trinity.

Felipe Tilkian, Gulliver, boys’ water polo: Tilkian had five goals, eight steals and an assist to lead the Raiders to a win over Palmetto.

Geraldine Seide, North Miami, flag football: Seide had four interceptions and caught five passes for 50 yards and touchdown to lead the Pioneers to a 19-12 win over Reagan.

Josh Silverman and Milana Datieva, Mourning, badminton: Silverman and Datieva won their singles matches to lead the Sharks to a win over Krop.

An overtime goal from Nico Rey lifted the Palmer Trinity Falcons boys’ soccer team to a 2-1 win over Lakeland Christian to earn a berth in the Class 1A state title game in DeLand, Florida.
