TEAM OF THE WEEK

The Palmetto girls’ soccer team secured its first GMAC championship since 2011. Ava Gruener and Emily Lamas had great performances in the tournament. Lamas scored two goals in the 2-0 championship victory over Ferguson. The Panthers also beat Hialeah Gardens and Coral Gables.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Charlie Osceola, Ferguson, boys’ basketball: Osceola had 39 points and eight steals in a win over Columbus.

Jakeira Betties, Hialeah, girls’ basketball: Betties had 23 points including three three-pointers in a win over Miami Beach.

Pablo Medina, Jackson, boys’ soccer: Medina scored three goals and had an assist in a 5-1 win over Miami Springs.

Alexandra Guixens, St. Brendan, girls’ soccer: Guixens scored the winning goal in a 1-0 win for the Sabres over Doral Academy and had two goals and an assist in a win against Mater Academy.

Ivan Martinez, Goleman, wrestling: Martinez scored two pins to lead the Gators to wins over Booker T. Washington and Krop.
