The Booker T. Washington football team advanced to its fifth consecutive state final thanks to a dominant performance over Cocoa in a 33-14 Class 4A state semifinal victory. Craig Nelson totaled 114 yards on 20 carries and scored a late touchdown to seal the victory. Quarterback Daniel Richardson completed 25 of 36 passes for 239 yards, threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another.


Alex Ros, Columbus, football: Ros completed 7 of 9 passes for 117 yards and threw three touchdown passes to help the Explorers beat South Dade 42-9 in the Region 4-8A final.

Kywan Smith, Central, football: Smith ran for a season-high 127 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Rockets to a 33-21 win over Daytona Beach Mainland in the Region 4-6A final.

Christian Anglada, Archbishop Carroll, boys’ basketball: Anglada earned tournament MVP honors for the Bulldogs, who won the championship of the Bokamper’s Turkey Shoot in Naples.

Mikayla Thomas, Gulliver, girls’ basketball: Thomas finished with a double-double — 16 points and 12 rebounds — and added three blocks in a 48-47 overtime win over Doral Academy in the Gulliver Thanksgiving Classic. Thomas also had 20 points in a win over West Boca Raton.

Pablo Medina, Jackson, boys’ soccer: Medina had two goals to lead the Generals to a 4-2 win over Monsignor Pace.

Alyssa Deno, Miami Springs, girls’ soccer: Deno scored three goals and had two assists to lead the Golden Hawks to a 5-1 win over Goleman.
