Booker T. Washington became the first Miami-Dade County football team to win three consecutive state championships in the playoff era with a 54-35 win over Jacksonville Bolles. Running back Mark Walton finished with 19 carries for 184 yards and caught three passes for 89 yards, scoring five touchdowns overall.


Donovan Thompson, Central, football: Thompson recorded four sacks and 17 tackles to lead the Rockets to the 31-21 road win over Daytona Beach Mainland in the Class 6A state semifinals.

Tucker Beirne, Columbus, football: Beirne threw two touchdown passes in the Explorers’ 16-12 win over Flanagan in a Class 8A state semifinal that propelled Columbus to the state final for the first time since 1982.

Kyle Washington, Dr. Krop, boys’ basketball: Washington had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lightning to a 61-59 win over Miami Springs.

Christian Silva, Belen, boys’ basketball: Silva had 11 points and 10 rebounds to help the Wolverines edge Doral 37-36.

Khadijah Brown, South Miami, girls’ basketball: Brown had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead the Cobras to a 48-46 win over Norland.

Kamaria Johnson, Ferguson, girls’ basketball: Johnson had 26 rebounds and 12 points in a win against previously unbeaten Lourdes, and 10 points and 12 rebounds in a win against Gables.

Stephen Millian, Columbus, boys’ soccer: Millian recorded a shutout as the Explorers beat Coral Gables 1-0.

Jade Mallea, Coral Gables, girls’ soccer: Mallea had three goals in a 4-2 win against Coral Park.

Sebastian Montez, Rashad Roberts, Stephen Moreno and Alexander Perez, Pace, wrestling: The four scored victories to lead the Spartans to wins over Ferguson, Norland, Curley and Killian.
