The Columbus football team advanced to its third state semifinal in the past four seasons with a 33-7 rout of previously unbeaten Killian in the Region 4-8A final. Quarterback Tucker Beirne completed 21 of 28 passes for 250 yards and two touchdown passes. Receiver Austin Maloney caught five passes for 122 yards, and Jerron Rollins caught seven passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns. Columbus’ defense has allowed only 16 points in its past five games.


Mark Walton, Booker T. Washington, football: Walton ran for 127 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown to help the Tornadoes advance to the state final for the fourth consecutive season with a 14-12 win over Cocoa in a Class 4A state semifinal.

Keivonnis Davis, Central, football: Davis had two sacks and led a solid defensive effort that helped the Rockets beat Palm Bay Heritage 20-12 in the Region 4-6A final.

Nick Diaz, Sunset, boys’ cross-country: Diaz finished ninth at the Foot Locker Cross-Country South Regionals championship and qualified for nationals Dec.13 in San Diego.

Adolfo Diaz, Braddock, boys’ basketball: Diaz had 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to a 36-34 win against Columbus.

C.J. Fisher, Monsignor Pace, boys’ basketball: Fisher scored 38 points to lead the Spartans to a 91-86 win over Booker T. Washington.

Giolibeth Perez, Ferguson, girls’ basketball: Perez had 29 points, 11 steals and nine assists to lead the Falcons to a win over South Miami.

Katherine Espinosa, Sunset, girls’ basketball: Espinosa had 25 points and nine steals in a win against Westland Hialeah to surpass the 1,000-point mark for her career in 47 games played at Sunset.

Holman Rios, Ferguson, boys’ soccer: Rios scored two goals to lead the Falcons to a 2-1 win over Edison.

Karina Medina, Varela, girls’ soccer: Medina scored four goals to lead the Vipers to an 8-2 win against Sunset.
