Deandre Wilder prowled and pounced all over Southridge in Carol City’s 25-9 victory at Traz Powell on Friday night.

“The defensive line did a wonderful job of getting to the quarterback,” Wilder said. “I had to set the tone.”

Wilder piled up two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for the Chiefs (4-1, 1-0, District 16-6A).

Darnell Rolle capped off a first quarter Carol City drive with a 1-yard scoring run to put the Chiefs up 6-0.

The Spartans closed the gap with a 20-yard field goal from Juan Gonzalez in the second quarter.

Steven Calvert found Montray Smith for a 39-yard touchdown to put the Chiefs up 13-3 at halftime.

Nayquan Wright, Calvert and the Spartans' Cliff Smith Jr., each had fourth quarter scoring runs.

The Chiefs test its four-game winning streak against Central next Saturday in a 16-6A matchup at Traz Powell.

Southridge (2-3) starts its 16-8A slate Friday at South Dade.

“Central is definitely one of the biggest games of the season,” Calvert said. “We just have to stay focused, get our minds right and just try to come out with a win.”
