High school sports: Last week’s best Miami-Dade performances

The Belen swimming and diving team won the Region 4-3A meet. Alejandro Carriazo won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke to lead the Wolverines.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Kato Nelson, Champagnat Catholic, football: Nelson completed 19 of 26 passes for 506 yards and threw six touchdown passes despite a loss to Oxbridge Academy.
Hilton Joseph, North Miami, football: Joseph threw for 476 yards and three touchdown passes, completing 28 of 48 attempts to lead the Pioneers to a win over Krop.
Kristine Rios, Coral Reef, girls’ volleyball: Rios had 10 kills and 21 assists to lead the Barracudas to a five-set win against Southwest in a Region 4-8A quarterfinal.
Mary Shelow, Mourning, girls’ volleyball: Shelow had 12 kills and 14 digs to lead the Sharks to a Region 4-6A quarterfinal win over Doral.
Julio Horrego, Mater Academy, boys’ swimming and diving: Horrego won the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM at the Region 4-3A championship.
Arianna Noya, Reagan, girls’ swimming and diving: Noya won the 100 free and 200 free at the Region 4-4A championships.
Jessica Rodriguez, Hialeah Gardens, girls’ swimming and diving: Rodriguez won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke at the Region 4-4A championships.
Nick Diaz, Sunset, boys’ cross-country: Diaz ran a Dade-best time of 15:51 to win the District 16-4A championship.
Lauren Archer, Ransom Everglades, girls’ cross-country: Archer ran a winning time of 18:48 to win the District 16-2A title.
Alexa Rivas, Palmetto, girls’ golf: Rivas shot a Dade-best 150 over two days to finish sixth at the Class 3A state championship.
Carlos Forero, Killian, boys’ bowling: Forero won the District 17 championship after rolling a 762 high series.
Kristi Perlberg, TERRA, girls’ bowling: Perlberg bowled a 475 high series to win the District 17 championship.
Thalita Azevado, Krop, girls’ soccer: Azevado had four goals in an 8-0 win against Edison.
