South Dade leans on ground game to top Coral Reef

The Buccaneers (6-3, 2-2 in 16-8A) ran for 204 yards, including 97 from Tre’Ven Worthen, to get past the Barracudas (1-8, 0-4) with a 12-7 victory on Senior Night at Harris Field.

Julian Hinojosa scored the Buccaneers only touchdown of the night late in the first quarter when he ran it in from five yards out to give South Dade the early lead.

After two field goals from Mark Sanchez to extend the lead to 12-0, the Barracudas answered back with a 51-yard touchdown run by Jawon Hamilton. He finished the night with 87 yards on 11 carries. With a chance to take the lead late, the Barracudas took one last shot, but quarterback Daniel Cohen’s pass was intercepted by Tyrone Mills to seal the win for the Buccaneers.

The teams combined for 23 penalties for 165 yards.
