Belen boys dominate cross-country District 16-3A championship

The Belen boys’ cross-country team dominated the District 16-3A championship, with seven members going to regionals.

Ryan Rodriguez led the championship at 16:39.24. Mathew Mullin-Garcia, Jaime Lopez, Juan Zayas, Joshua Collins and Nicolas Roca followed as the Wolverines held the top six spots of the championship.

Giovanni Rosado and William Breslow finished at 10th and 11th for Doral Academy. Homestead’s Eduardo Reyes and Bernard Etienne followed with 12th and 14th place.

Daniel Santana will be representing Miami Lakes, Gabriel Caceres won for TERRA and Wilmer Garcia for Mater Academy.

BOWLING

Killian’s Charlie Forero nearly bowled a 300 game to start his day at the District17 championship at Bird Bowl. Even after he rolled a spare following nine consecutive strikes, Forero took a bow before applauding fans and teammates nearby.

Forero’s day wasn’t done, though.

He went on to roll a 762 high series and secure the boys’ individual championship and qualify for next week’s state meet in Orlando.

Ferguson defeated TERRA to win the boys’ team championship, winning the Baker bracket final and also bowling 36 pins more to lead the team standings.

TERRA got some payback on the girls’ side by beating Ferguson in both brackets, as well. Kristi Perlberg led the Wolves and won the individual girls’ title after a 475 high series.
