Mater Academy rushes past South Miami in 28-6 victory

The rushing attack and defense got Mater Academy (1-0, 1-0) past South Miami (0-2, 0-1) for a District 16-7A victory Friday night at Curtis Park.

Running back Jamar Thompkins of South Miami left the game late in the third quarter with an injury to his left foot. Prior to the injury, Thompkins had rushed for 89 yards, and he was coming off a 159-yard performance last week.

TOP TWO

Darius Brown: Scored a pair of impressive touchdowns for Mater, one on a 46-yard run and the other on a 75-yard kickoff return. Brown led Mater with 88 rushing yards on eight carries.

Daniel Doriscar: Rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Doriscar also had two receptions for 13 yards.
