Although the Miami True North Classical Academy baseball team has made the postseason in recent years, it’s been stuck behind South Florida’s perennial contenders.

That’s changed this season.

The Titans put together a near-perfect performance over the course of two victories over Miami Palmer Trinity to secure their first trip to the regional finals.

True North (19-7), the No. 1 seed in Region 4-2A, finished off the Falcons with an 11-0, five-inning, walk-off victory in the semifinal round on Saturday at Glades Middle School.

“We learned from our mistakes last year, and we always remind them to just take care of business, and they did,” True North coach Adrian Nieto said.

Carlos Victorero struck out five, walked none and allowed four hits over five shutout innings for True North, which will next host Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna in a best-of-3 regional final series beginning Friday at 4 in the regional final and continuing Saturday at 1. If a third game is needed, it will be played 30 minutes after the second game ends.

“It’s going to be a great series,” Nieto said. “They have one of the best lefties down here, and he brings a lot of energy. We’re going to give them our best shot.”

Jayden Cedeno had three doubles and three RBI while Matias Fischer had a home run, a double and three RBI. Noah Gamboa also had two hits and two RBI.

“I tell these guys, they get 25 pop quizzes during the regular season, and we use those for the final exams which are now here,” Nieto said. “A lot of those guys have been in that dugout for the past couple of years, and they’ve learned.”
