Downtown Doral boys soccer returns to state; Westminster, BridgePrep advance
Downtown Doral’s boys’ soccer team has been on a mission since the end of the 2024 season.
The Dolphins finished state runners-up that season on their first trip to the state final four. Last season, a return trip was denied in the regional semifinals.
But this season, Downtown Doral hasn’t let even the top competition slow it down.
On Friday night at Milander Park, the Dolphins dominated once again, jumping out to a three-goal lead by halftime and eventually finishing off Miami SLAM Academy for a 3-1 victory in the Region 4-3A final at Milander Park in Hialeah.
Downtown Doral (17-1-3), which is in just its fifth season of varsity competition, is the top seed in Class 3A and fourth overall regardless of classification. The Dolphins will face Cocoa Beach at 7 on Thursday in a state semifinal at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale. If they win, they would face either Boynton Beach Somerset Academy or Alachua Santa Fe next Saturday at 1 for the state title.
Senior Santiago Ramos led Downtown Doral with two goals while Victor Villalobos scored a goal for the second consecutive playoff match.
The Titans finished 21-5-1.
Region 4-2A final - Westminster Christian 1, Palmer Trinity 0: The Warriors (16-4-2) advanced to the state final four for the first time since 2021 when they finished state runners-up. It is their fifth state semifinals appearance all-time and they will play Melbourne Holy Trinity Episcopal on Tuesday at 4 at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale. The Falcons finished 15-5-2.
Region 4-1A final - BridgePrep Village Green 3, Pompano Highlands Christian 1 (OT): The Bulldogs (13-1-1) scored a pair of goals in overtime to secure their first trip to the state final four. The Bulldogs will face Fort Myers Canterbury in a Class 1A state semifinal at 4 on Friday at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale. The Knights finished 14-12.
