Immaculata-La Salle girls’ soccer continues impressive regional playoff run
The Immaculata-La Salle girls’ soccer team doesn’t mind working overtime away from home.
The Royal Lions are thriving when the pressure is at its highest lately and making school history in the process.
On Monday afternoon, La Salle hit the road for the second consecutive time in this year’s regional playoffs.
The Royal Lions dueled a higher-seeded opponent into double overtime for the second consecutive game.
And for the second consecutive week, junior forward Camila Andreu scored the decisive goal in that extra period to keep La Salle’s historic season going following a 3-2 win over host Pine Crest in a Region 4-3A semifinal in Fort Lauderdale.
The Royal Lions (10-7-1), the No. 6 seed in the region, took down No. 3 seed MAST Academy 4-3 in double overtime last week on an Andreu game-winner. This week, Andreu’s goal took down the No. 2-seeded Panthers (13-4-1) to help La Salle advance to the regional finals for the first time in program history.
Next, the Royal Lions will try to complete the sweep and advance to state when they travel again to Fort Lauderdale to face unbeaten and top-seeded Cardinal Gibbons (19-0-2) on Friday at 6.
Powering Andreu’s hat trick were Cristina Echeverri, who assisted on two of the goals and Sofia Cruces, who provided the other.
