Deundre Pickett-White leads Southwest to victory over Braddock in game marred by injuries
Deundre Pickett-White led the Eagles (6-1, 2-1 District 15-8A) with 185 passing yards and two scores in a 24-7 victory over the Bulldogs (1-6, 0-3) Thursday night at Tropical Park.
Pickett-White's first score came on the opening offensive play of the game when he hit C.J. McWilliams for an 80-yard touchdown.
With just under 10 minutes to play in the second quarter, Braddock linebacker Danny Herrera was injured on a kickoff return. He was carried off the field by teammates. Soon after, he was seen on the side line with his left leg in a full brace.
Shortly after Herrera's injury, Braddock defensive end Jason Reese was injured on a punt return. Reese was immobilized from the neck down, placed on a stretcher and left the field in an ambulance. Minutes later, Herrera also left the field on a stretcher. Braddock declined to comment further on the injuries.
Southwest's Dimitri Rodriguez had two big plays on defense as he scored on a fumble recovered in the end zone and had an interception.
The Bulldogs' touchdown came on an 8-yard catch by Chris Sarabia from Angel Alvarez. McWilliams had a game-high 114 receiving yards on three receptions.
