Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Feb. 25)
Miami-Dade County’s top athletes keep delivering clutch performances in the winter sports playoffs and start of the springs sports seasons.
This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Dade high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Feb. 29, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:
▪ Dante Allen, Riviera Prep, boys’ basketball: Allen scored 23 points to lead the Bulldogs back to the Class 3A state final four following a 75-60 win over Westminster Academy.
▪ Yitzhak Calatrava, Doral Academy, boys’ soccer: Calatrava tied the game in regulation and then scored the game winner in overtime to lead the Firebirds to a 3-1 win over Cypress Bay in the Region 4-7A final.
▪ Jacob Lombard, Gulliver, boys’ soccer: Lombard scored in both state tournament games to lead the Raiders to their ninth state championship and second in a row.
▪ Jim’miyah Branton, SLAM, girls’ basketball: Branton had 21 points in the regional semifinals against Monsignor Pace and scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Titans to an 84-55 victory.
▪ Kayla Nelms, Miami Country Day, girls’ basketball: Nelms paced Country Day with 20 points and 23 rebounds to lead them to a 52-37 win over Somerset Prep in the Region 4-3A final.
