Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Nov. 12)

Miami-Dade County’s best athletes delivered some top-notch performances once again last week.

This week, we resume a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Nov. 16, around 10 p.m.

You may vote as often as you like until then.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Amari Wallace, Miami Central, football: Wallace had two key interceptions including one he returned 34 yards for a touchdown to lead the Rockets to a 31-13 win over Miami Edison in a Region 4-2M quarterfinal.

Lorenzo Rodriguez, Belen Jesuit, boys’ golf: Rodriguez won the individual state championship in Class 2A making him the first Miami-Dade County boys’ golfer since 2002 to accomplish the feat.

Anthony Pineiro, Braddock, boys’ swimming and diving: Pineiro won state championships in the 100 butterfly in 48.43 seconds and in the 100 backstroke in 48.50 seconds at the Class 4A state meet.

Jackie Taylor, Gulliver, girls’ volleyball: Taylor finished with a combined 54 kills and 12 blocks to lead the Raiders to wins over Tampa Academy of the Holy Names and Orlando Bishop Moore, which clinched the school’s first state championship.

Michael Nozile, Monsignor Pace, football: Nozile had 110 yards rushing and two touchdowns to lead the Spartans to a 41-14 win over Gulliver Prep - their first playoff win in six seasons.
