Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Oct. 22)

Miami-Dade County’s best impressed once again last week as the fall sports playoffs began.

This week, we resume a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Oct. 26, around 10 p.m.

You may vote as often as you like until then.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Dayleen Valdes, True North, girls’ volleyball: Valdes had 17 kills to lead the Titans to a win over Archbishop Carroll and their first ever district championship.

Sasha Kawas, Divine Savior, girls’ volleyball: Kawas had 12 kills, five aces and six digs to lead the Sharks to a district championship win over Doctors Charter.

Lorenzo Rodriguez, Belen Jesuit, boys’ golf: Rodriguez shot a 66 and then won a one-hole playoff to secure the individual title at the Wolverine Golf Classic at PGA National.

Lorenzo Cantarel, Coral Gables, boys’ golf: Cantarel edged a group of golfers from team champion Columbus by shooting a 72 to win the GMAC championship.

Gia Culler-Guerra, Miami Springs, girls’ golf: Culler-Guerra shot a 72 to finish well ahead of the field and win the GMAC championship.
