Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Oct. 1)

Miami-Dade County’s top athletes shined again this week with more stellar performances as the 2023-24 high school sports season moves into October.

This week, we resume a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Oct. 5, around 10 p.m.

You may vote as often as you like until then.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Jordan Lleo, Doral Academy, football: Lleo threw for over 250 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Firebirds to a crucial 20-16 district win over Goleman.

Joshua Ruiz, Belen, boys’ cross-country: Ruiz finished second at the Pre-State Invitational in Tallahassee with a time of 14:59.60 to lead the Wolverines to their sixth consecutive championship of that event.

Grace Aldrich, Carrollton, girls’ cross-country: Aldrich ran a time of 19:58.61 to win the Youth Fair Invitational.

Julian Terry, Gulliver, football: Terry recorded 10 tackles including six for loss and had two sacks to lead the Raiders to a 20-14 district win over Miami Killian.

Karina Santamaria, St. Brendan, girls’ swimming: Santamaria won the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly to lead the Sabres to a meet win over Reagan.
