TEAM OF THE WEEK

The Killian football team remained undefeated with a 28-21 win against Coral Gables. Anthony Olivencia caught two touchdown passes, Jaquan Johnson returned a punt for a touchdown and James Bowe returned an interception for a touchdown to lead the Cougars.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Justin Vargas, Varela, football: Vargas ran for 119 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries and completed 12 of 24 passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions to lead the Vipers to a 34-28 win over previously unbeaten Reagan.

Hylton Joseph, North Miami, football: Joseph passed for 437 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Pioneers to a 40-7 win against Coral Reef.

Ronneldon Ellington, Carol City, football: Ellington ran for four touchdowns and 161 yards on 11 carries to lead the Chiefs to a 39-0 win against North Miami Beach.

Stacy Fuentes, Braddock, volleyball: Fuentes had 28 assists and 14 digs to lead the Bulldogs to a win against Coral Park.

Robert Ballestas, Columbus, boys’ swimming and diving: Ballestas won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly to lead the Explorers to the GMAC championship.

Omaira German, American, girls’ swimming and diving: German won the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle at the GMAC championships.

Maria Perez, Hialeah-Miami Lakes, girls’ swimming and diving: Perez won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle at the GMAC championships.

Deshay Fernandes, Coral Gables, boys’ cross-country: Fernandes ran a time of 17:50.12 to win the individual championship of the 305 Classic.

Lauren Archer, Ransom Everglades, girls’ cross-country: Archer ran a Dade-best time of 18:44.94 at the FSU (Pre-state) Invitational.

Jinah Mickens, Mater Academy, girls’ cross-country: Mickens ran a time of 20:41.75 to win the 305 Classic individual title.

Rafa Martinez and Julio Betancourt, Columbus, boys’ golf: Martinez and Betancourt each shot 73 to win the GMAC championship and lead their team to victory.

Alexa Rivas, Palmetto, girls’ golf: Rivas shot 77 to secure the individual GMAC championship.

Alex Yaniz, Miami Christian, boys’ bowling: Yaniz bowled a 695 high series to lead the Victors to a win against Belen.

Kristin Smith, South Dade, girls’ bowling: Smith bowled a 492 high series in a meet against Coral Reef.
