Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Oct. 16)
The first two months of the fall sports season have seen their share of stellar performances by top Miami-Dade County athletes. More of them led to key victories for their teams this past week.
This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Oct. 20, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:
▪ Lamont Green Jr., Gulliver, football: Green recorded five sacks to lead the Raiders to a key 21-14 victory over Palm Beach Gardens Benjamin.
▪ Damari Charlton, Southridge, football: Charlton completed 17 of 27 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Spartans to a 20-8 upset win over Homestead and the District 16-3M championship.
▪ Hailey Zambrana, Palmetto, girls’ volleyball: Zambrana totaled 18 kills and 22 digs to lead the Panthers to a key district victory over Coral Reef in five sets.
▪ Olivia Dinehart, Cutler Bay, girls’ swimming: Dinehart won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke to lead the Tiger Sharks, who swept all three relays, to the championship of the Belen Jesuit Invitational.
▪ Luis Fernandez, Coral Park, boys’ bowling: Fernandez rolled a high set 653 at the Youth Fair bowling tournament to earn top honors among the boys’ competitors.
