Jordan Cronkrite leads Westminster Christian in rout of Chaminande-Madonna

Led by Jordan Cronkrite’s 252 rushing yards and three touchdowns, the Westminster Christian (5-1) locked up the District 8-3A championship for the second consecutive season with a 48-14 at Chaminade-Madonna.

Since the district has only two teams, Chaminade-Madonna is still guaranteed a playoff berth despite the loss.

The game resumed Monday after it had been suspended on Friday due to inclement weather.

Resuming in a 7-7 tie with 2:51 left in the first quarter, Westminster Christian scored 21 unanswered points to open a 28-7 lead midway through the third when quarterback Christian Matos found Tim Irvin for a 44-yard touchdown pass.

Chaminade (1-5) capitalized on a fumble when quarterback Marcelo Rodriguez capped a short drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to cut Westminster’s lead to 28-14. The Lions drove into Warriors’ territory on their ensuing drive, but the Warriors’ defense forced a loss on downs.

Westminster Christian followed with 20 more points to close out the game on one of Cronkrite’s touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns by junior Daren Jones.
