Miami Coral Park Senior High School’s RamTech 59 Team took the overall championship in the 13 the InterNational STEM League Finals for Ten80 STEM Challenges.

The NSL Finals mark the culmination of year-long programs in which Ten80 Racing, Autonomous Vehicle (AV), and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Challenge teams creatively engineer performance using emerging technologies while growing personal, academic, and professional skills. Once students understand the form and function of each component and system, they optimize its design using data and math modeling.

This year, the iNSL iRacing Student Innovation Challenge joined the Finals lineup as student teams showcased game tech R&D projects. Middle and high school students formed simulated iRacing teams, but this race series has a real-world STEM twist. To earn a place on track, each STEM team must design its own wheel, pedals, and control panel setups for controlling the simulated race car. R&D teams earn more points for innovation than speed, but prototype rigs must successfully steer simulated cars across the finish line to qualify.

“I’m so proud of my students, this year definitely presented obstacles, yet they still prepared and worked hard to overcome adversity. They dedicate time to make face shields for our front-line workers when supplies were scarce and most needed. What impressed me the most was how much fun they had this year working together as a group on all these projects. It made it fun for me as the teacher sponsor!,” said Charlie Delahoz, Miami Coral Park Senior High career and technical education teacher.

Preschoolers’ Art Projects Raise Money for Make-A-Wish

Local preschoolers at The Learning Experience centers in South Florida are inspiring hope, creating art, and helping grant wishes for Make-A-Wish children through a month-long fundraising campaign.

“Art For Wishes” is The Learning Experience Center’s April fundraiser that was developed in partnership with Make-A-Wish. At the beginning of each week, the art projects were introduced to preschoolers through an in-classroom video featuring a Make-A-Wish child’s story. Students as young as 3 worked together to create a series of unique art projects that parents and donors had the opportunity to win during an art raffle at the end of the month.
