Despite dealing with two lightning delays, one at the start of the game and the other near halftime, the disruption did nothing to slow down Mater Academy on Wednesday night as the Lions rolled to a 28-0 victory over Goleman at Milander Stadium in a District 16-7A contest.
Running backs Zach Moss and Daniel Doriscar led Mater (3-2, 2-0) with 104 yards on nine carries and 64 yards on seven carries, respectively. Moss also had a 43-yard touchdown run, Mater’s final score, with 4:13 left. Doriscar scored twice, from 8 yards and 2 yards.
The Lions’ opening score came on their first possession of the night when quarterback Temothas Herrington found Steven Rodriguez for a 53-yard scoring pass.
“It’s a matter of climbing the staircase one step at a time and building momentum as the season goes on and that’s what we’re doing,” second-year Mater coach Javier Valdes said.
