Killian coach Cory Johnson called for a 5 a.m. practice Thursday to see how his Cougars would deal with adversity.
It turned out to be all the adversity his team wound up facing for the week as unbeaten Killian shut out Homestead (1-3, 0-1 District 16-6A) 14-0 on Friday night at Harris Field.
Bentavious Thompson had 17 carries for 96 yards and the touchdown that put Killian (5-0, 1-0) up two possessions in the third quarter. It was set up by a fake punt that Sheldrick Redwine took 50 yards to the Homestead 10-yard line.
The Cougars struck first in the second quarter when Antwan Collier passed to Jordan Herrera in the corner of the end zone.
