Westland Hialeah football breaks state record for consecutive losses

It’s not the kind of record the Westland Hialeah football program was looking to break. But unfortunately the Wildcats will have to live with it.

Friday night’s whopping 86-0 loss to Doral Academy marked Westland’s 47th consecutive loss, breaking the all-time state record. It also is believed to be a Miami-Dade County record for most points scored in a single game.

According to Orlando Sun Sentinel long-time high school writer Buddy Collings, Leto High School from Tampa was the previous record holder with 46 straight losses spanning from 2010 to 2014.

You have to go all the way back to Oct. 4, 2013 to track down Westland’s last win which was over Mourning. They then lost their final four games of that season under coach Mike Manasco before he left for Palmetto and that was followed by four straight 0-10 seasons leading into 2018.

The most staggering number: 2,014-51. That’s how much the team has been outscored by since the start of the 2014 season.
